I felt like I was just doing this for October! November was a great month, filled with lots of exciting things! The month ended on a high note with a much deserved Thanksgiving break, getting me rested and rejuvenated to finish out the rest of the semester (about a week and a half left of classes!). It’s hard to believe the end of the year is quickly approaching us, like, what happened to 2014?
Nonetheless, this is the best month of the entire year! I absolutely LOVE the holiday season. It’s the most wonderful time of the year (punny, I know). But first, let’s talk about what I was loving in November.
Fashion & Beauty
November had a few fashion and beauty favorites, mostly because I picked some up while I was home for a weekend at the end of October. I have been super into the 70s as style inspiration for the fall, so it’s appropriate that all my favorites center on that trend.
The first favorite is my jumpsuit. I bought this with the original intent to wear it to the FGI fashion show later in the month. It was one of those things where you have to find the right one that flatters you, kind of like a maxi dress. Once you do, you are set. My mom was super skeptical of this when I first told her, but when I put it on and showed her, she was astounded at just how flattering it was on me. First the Birkenstocks, now the jumpsuit. I guess I have a knack for rocking those kinds of trends. I accessorized this in a total 70s goddess way with super voluminous hair, giant hoop earrings and a bold plum lip. It was a shame I only got to wear it for a few hours, but hey, there are still the holidays, right?
The next fashion item I have been loving this month has been my fur vest. Fortunately for me, fur is everywhere this season, so finding one was not an issue. I have honestly worn it about half a dozen times this far. It is a great neutral piece that you can pair with just about any item of clothing, yet it still acts as a statement piece. My favorite way to style it is with a bold lip, a top knot and a statement necklace. I predict “Fur Fridays” is going to replace “Flannel Fridays” in the near future. I got this one at Forever 21, which has a great selection of them. The fur almost has a feather like quality.
The last fashion favorite I have are my flared jeans. I was excited to get a pair because I love the way it looks styled with heeled booties. I think it looks super chic and it’s a nice change from skinny jeans. The pair I have from Levi’s are super flattering and are the perfect dark wash to be worn year round. I’m still in the process of styling these jeans, but I’m slowly finding new ways to wear them, and will continue to as spring approaches!
I haven’t been really switching up my beauty routine a lot, but I have been wearing more of a statement lip this past month. Lip color is something I haven’t really mastered yet, just because I always was self-conscious about it drawing attention to myself. I am forcing myself to wear it more so I can get practice in applying it and get comfortable with wearing them. A great product for this is Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains. These have the staying power of a stain with the moisture and sheen of a lip gloss. My pick is Parisian Passion, a dark fuchsia color. This has been my go-to whenever I want to wear a statement lip. They are super easy to apply and stay on for a while. Not to mention, these can be found at the drugstore for very inexpensive.
I love to include these lifestyle favorites because I love sharing what music, TV shows, movies, etc. I’m into at the moment.
Every time I get the chance, I love picking up Porter magazine. This is a magazine powered by the shopping site Net-a-Porter, and there are only 6 issues published a year. What I love about this magazine is each issue is centered around a particular theme. This last issue I picked up was centered on a romantic, dream-like theme and it showed in the editorial photos. I am in love with all the photo spreads they did in this issue, and is definitely worth the $10 it costs per issue.
This month was also the annual Fashion Group International recycled fall fashion show. I was covering it as press, which was exciting, considering I sat front row and felt like Anna Wintour critiquing garments. I had my own garment walk in the show which was pretty cool considering I have never designed anything before (this was for a class). I was excited to see it walk, considering all the work my group and I put into it.
A pretty neat thing I got to do this month was attend Denver Fashion Weekend. It was put on by 303 Magazine, a local fashion and lifestyle magazine in downtown Denver. I got to attend on behalf of The Fashion Report as press. It was mostly menswear, featuring MyPackage, Jiberish, Featured Clothing and Burton. It was cool to see a runway show up close, and the venue (City Hall Nightclub) was pretty cool too!
Another thing I really enjoyed this month was getting a chance to see the lights in Old Town. I am a sucker for light displays, especially around the holidays, and I heard nothing but good things about Old Town’s. Though it was freezing cold, the atmosphere was a perfect leeway into the holiday season!
Now onto my music favorites….
The two albums I have been listening to nonstop are “1989” by Taylor Swift and “Four” by One Direction. Whenever I was doing something, either of those albums were most likely always playing. I love Taylor’s new album and her new sound. I finally think she found her true music genre with this album. Some of my favorite songs are “Wildest Dreams,” “I Know Places,” “Blank Space” and “Welcome to New York” (Sidenote: if a song could describe my year, it’s “Shake it Off”!). It makes me even more excited to see her next September! As for One Direction, each album’s sound gets better and better. This album makes them sound less of a boyband and more of just a band. Some of my favorites here are “No Control,” “Night Changes,” “Once in a Lifetime,” “Spaces” and “Stockholm Syndrome.”
Lastly, my favorite quote of the month (and potential life goals!):
“I want to move into an apartment in Manhattan with white floors and big windows. Drink coffee in Central Park with my best friend and gossip about that bitch yesterday. Work at a fashion house. Go to a bar downtown with all of my friends on the weekends. Wear my boyfriend’s shirt at home, but extravagant clothes when I go out. And last, but not least – I want to be the type of person, people turn around on the streets and go ‘she’s someone’.”
I can’t wait to see what new things I discover in December! Have a happy holiday season!
