I used to have these monthly on my old style blog, but I figured since a lot of them are lifestyle related, they better fit my personal blog. For those who never read my monthly favorites, I will just go through and share what I loved for the month of October since November is now upon us (say what?).
Ever since I went home in September, I saw these and immediately fell in love with them. I have always thought wearing heels to class was one of the stupidest things, to the point where every time I would pass a girl in stilettos, I would shake my head, but I am growing a liking to them, mostly because of the surprisingly comfortable chunky heel. I have these, and my black sueded pair from H&M I just couldn’t pass up over the summer. Oddly, enough, this was a Target find.
In addition to heeled booties, I have never really been much for hats. That all changed once I lingered in the accessories section at Target the same day I purchased the boots. After trying a few on, this one struck my fancy. I feel so chic when I wear it! It being a black fedora with a wide brim. It looks especially amazing when I wear a dark lip and a peacoat – I feel like Carmen Sandiego. I love trying new things, because they are the things you end up falling in love with.
I decided that I am a total necklace girl. Recently, I have been loving statement necklaces, the ones that add some pizazz to an outfit. My sister got me one for my birthday, and I am so in love with it. Pair it with an amazing H&M dress and you get my birthday outfit. The ones from Baublebar, though a little bit pricier, are so worth it if you have the extra cash to shell out.
I like the idea of getting a new handbag for each season. I needed a new one anyways since my one I bought in the spring was starting to fall apart. My parents got me a new one for my birthday, seeing as it was the only “want” item on my list. What I love about it, is not only the color, but the fact that it is big enough to hold my MacBook if I have to take it with me to a coffee shop. I love big bags solely for the fact you can throw whatever you want in it. If you want cool bags that can dupe for something found at J. Crew, I suggest Aldo.
Now on to my non-fashion favorites….
For an assignment for my journalism class I’m taking this semester, I had to make a portfolio website. We hosted it through Bluehost, costing an upfront fee of $60 for the year. I was dreading paying it, but I have definitely reconsidered. I love having all my work in one place, where a potential employer can search the web address and see all of my work I have done in college. I am absolutely in love with my site, and even more that I was able to customize the CSS on it.
This is easily my new favorite TV show of the fall. All the other ones have been ones I’ve been watching for multiple seasons. The CW always does an outstanding job when it comes to TV shows. I have never watched a bad show on their network. The Flash talks about Barry Allen (the lovely Grant Gustin…swoon) who was struck by lightning and is now the fasted man alive. He and his team fight the crime in Central City and find other “metahumans” just like him. If you are a fan of superheroes, I definitely recommend this show.
I finally caved and subscribed to this magazine. I fell in love with it when I read it over the summer while I was waiting for my sister to get her senior photos done. I just love how cutting edge it is. I love their editorial spreads and their content. Definitely in the running for “future places to work.”
“I’m proud to be a CSU Ram”
One of my other favorites has been college football, more specifically Rams football. I went to a game with the intention of getting my dad off my back for not going to a game at Hughes Stadium, so I went to our “Orange Out” game, and fell in love. I ended up going to Homecoming, which was the first game in 10 years that Hughes was sold out, am going again next Saturday. This fall has been incredible football weather, and not to mention the team is surprising everyone with an 8-1 record!
I’m in the middle of reading #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso, the founder of Nasty Gal. It is about how to become a #GIRLBOSS. I am in the middle of it and have been finding it super inspirational. She is truly a bad ass (and half-Greek, thank you very much).
As much as I am ready for the holiday season (my favorite time of the year!) I am very much enjoying the fall colors. In Fort Collins, the colors are so beautiful. We get a variety of different leaves from yellow, to reds and oranges. I fall in love with fall walking on campus to class every day. Almost all the leaves are off the trees as we enter into late fall, but it was great while it lasted.
And now to end with my favorite quote of the month:
“She is a paradox. She is faithful and yet detached. She is committed and yet relaxed. She loves everyone and yet no one. She is sociable but also a loner. She is gentle and yet tough. She is passionate but can also be platonic. In short, she is predictable in her unpredictability.”
Happy November everyone!
